What trill is

A notification compositor for macOS: one place for what interrupts you, and a filter in front of it. In the incubator; nothing to install yet.

trill is in the incubator

There is nothing to install, no release and no download. This page exists so the idea has an address while it is being built. Everything below is intent, not a shipped feature, and any of it may change or be dropped.

trill is a notification compositor for macOS: one place for the things that interrupt you, with a filter in front of it that you write rather than negotiate with an app at a time.

The problem it is aimed at is not that Macs notify too much. It's that notifications arrive from a dozen apps with a dozen different ideas of what is urgent, and macOS gives you one lever per app: on, or off. What's missing is a place to say this one matters, that one can wait until I look.

Where it is

  • The repo is hausfold/trill, created 2026-08-09. It is public, and the commit log is the honest status.
  • It was called flick while it incubated in the workshop, so both names appear in older writing.
  • ⚠️ nebelhaus/trill is not it. That name now resolves to nebelhaus/messages, an archived iMessage client (a different project entirely). Typing the old org for trill lands you on a tombstone, silently.

What it isn't yet

No install command, no haus.trill.* options, no room. When there is something a stranger can run, this tree grows the pages to say so. The Focus room, which is haus's answer to "go quiet" today, is where that story starts.
